Child Care For Parents and Caregivers

Overview

Scioto County Job and Family Services publicly funded child care partially covers the cost of child care for eligible low to moderate income families.

 

Caretakers (parents) can choose from nearly 1,500 providers and centers to find one that meets their specific needs. Providers are required to meet health, safety and training standards, ensuring parents and caregivers have access to safe, quality child care while they are in work or school.

 

Ultimately, Child Care helps ensure children are safe while parents work toward financial stability.

Do I Qualify?

Eligibility is based on gross income and family size. To be eligible:

  • Caretakers (parents) must be working or in an approved work activity.

  • Children must be under the age of 13, or if they have special needs, under the age of 18.

  • Children must meet citizenship requirements.

  • Other eligibility factors.

How To Apply (or Re-Apply) for Publicly Funded Child Care

Option 1:  Visit benefits.ohio.gov to set up an account (Username & Password Required)

 

Option 2: 

  1. Download and complete the Initial Child Care Application (JFS 01138) or Redet Child Care    Application (JFS 01124). 

  2. Return the completed application using one of these methods:

    1. EMAIL:  SciotoSS@jfs.ohio.gov  (When emailing documents, please include SSN or Case#)

    2. DROP OFF:  Use Drop Box on outside of agency at 710 Court Street, Portsmouth, OH

    3. MAIL:  SCDJFS, P.O. Box 1347, Portsmouth, OH 45662

Option 3:  Pickup Initial or Redet Child Care Application within the foyer of the Agency Lobby.  (You do not need to enter the lobby to pick up applications.  They are available, hanging on the wall, in the foyer prior to entering the Agency Lobby.)

SUBSIDIZED CHILD CARE

Financial assistance for eligible parents to help them with child care costs while they engage in work, education, or job training.
